Creating our Micro Organism in ZBrush

1
Lets create our Base Mesh using ZBrush Dynamesh

In this lesson we will use a sphere as our base and use Dynamesh to start our modelling.

We will also start to use some basic brushes to form the base mesh of our model this will be used to add more details onto to.

2
Building up the Details in our Base Mesh

Lets now start to pull out our legs for the sculpt, to do this we will use masking to only make the leg socket area editable.

3
Cutting in and Smoothing

Now we will start to cut in to the model and add more details to the surface, we will also use the deformation pallette to adjust the sculpt more.

By using lots of techiniques to do the same thing it should help you learn and explore ZBrush better.

4
Resculpting with Clay Tubes Brush

Continuing on we will use a clay tubes brush and redynamesh through the process.

5
Refining our Sculpt

Customising your UI we will create a custom shelf at the bottom of your Interface.
And further refine our block shape.

6
Adding Fold to our Skin using ZBrushes Masks and Brushes

Lets create some skin folds and wrinkles.
And increase our Dynamesh resolution.

7
Adding the floor subtool

In this lesson we will add the ground floor plane.

8
Creating a New Subtool the Cell

Now we will create the Cell that the organism is eating, to do this we will create a cylinder and then use some hardsurface modelling techniques to hollow the centre out, the tool we will look at is the ZRemodeller brush.

In order to smooth the cell uniformy we will use symetry with multiple turned on.

9
Detailing the Folds

Increasing the detail within Dynamesh, multiple brushes used.

10
Adding details and Creating Low Resolution Proxy part 1

Lets add some more detailing to our model! we will finish off the body and also add in the location for our little claws to go.

In this lesson we will create a low res version of our model created at the lowest subdivision level we will then use ZReshers to fix and create loverly topology we will then increase the subdivisions and project the details we did in the dynamesh version on to this subdivided low res version.

11
ZProjecting the Details part 2

So this video follows on from the last one now we have great topology we can begin the process to project the details from the Dynamesh version.

12
Looking at Alphas for Detailing

Using alphas in ZBrush is a very powefull feature it allows us to quickly add details and have full control over them when applying these to our model.

13
Adding a New Subtool the Claws

Look at a quick render!
Adding the claws to our sculpt as a new subtool.

14
Mirroring our Subtool and using Alphas

Lets use the Subtool Plugin to mirror your claw subtools across. And carry on with some finer details using Alphas!

15
Using mesh extraction to add another level of detail then adding alphas

Lets do a mesh extraction to duplicate part of the model we can then add more detail to this and form a kind of spider web look.

16
Modifying and detailing the ground and Cell

We need to do some adjustments to the ground plane to make it work within our scene. We will also need to add details to the Ground and Cell.

17
Using Fibre Mesh to Create the Micro Hairs

Its really easy to create hairs in Zbrush we use fibre mesh to do this watch this video to learn how to create a simple hair system.

18
Hiding Groups and Polygroups

In this video sit back and watch how polygroups and masking work within ZBrush this lesson is for you to be able to understand what is going on in the next video which is posing out scene.

19
Setting our Prelimary Pose with Zbrush TPose

Lets first adjust our ground plane and curve the back up.

We will then move on to TPosing our scupt, it take a bit of getting used to so take it slow, your soon be flying along!

20
Lets give the impression that the Organism is Eating our Cell

Lets duplicate our Cell and also take a chunk out of it to give the appearance of it being eaten.

21
The Final Pose using Zbrush TPose

OK so now we will go back into TPose and make some more revisions to get a more dynamic pose. we will use some more complex methods for making adjustments.

22
Document View Set Up and Saving Custom Views

Duplicating Cells and final position of subtools.

In this video the main aim is to show you how to set the output resolution and set up a custom scene saved out for recal later.

Something which confuses people often with ZBrush is all the
different savings you can do in ZBrush let me explain what these are
here.

  • Save ZTool = This is the model, the actual scuplture itself with subtools
  • Save the doc = This is the document size, resolution of document your working with
  • Zapp link = Custom view save, this is the view you set on the camera inside the doc

These are the basic things you might save not including materials and brushes etc...

23
Material setup and render out putting

Lets set up our materials and our output setting and produce these for our final render.

Well done for completing this project I hope you have enjoyed this ZBrush course and have learnt buckets!!!

Any problem you have please contact me via Q&As :)

Putting it all together in Photoshop

1
Importing our Renders into Photoshop

Lets import out exported images into Photoshop as one file layered.

2
Looking at Layer Masks/Filters and Adjustment Layers inside of photoshop

Now we will composite our layers together I will show you great ways for creating amazing control over your images, this can be applied to any kind of work you do in Photoshop.

3
Final Tweaks and output

Final tweaks in Photoshop.

Hope you have enjoyed this course and learnt lots from it any questions fire them over to me and I will help!!!!

4
A Final Test Test!

Take the challenge answer as many as you can :)

Student Help Section

1
Problems with Mirroring Subtools

I have done a quick lecture here as one of my students needed help with mirroring subtools.

2
Getting your Geometry all the same Subdivision level if you have to!

In this short help video I am going to show you how to use ZRemesher this can be handy if you need better topology flow across your model and also need to even out the sub division level across merged Sub tools. We also look how to poly group them all to the same poly group if you need the tools as separate poly groups use auto group!
